Daily Cryptocurrency Tracker 3.1.19: Ethereum regains spot as 2nd-largest crypto

The positive momentum seen in cryptocurrency markets yesterday persisted over the past 24 hours, as all top 10 cryptos registered gains. At the time of writing, Bitcoin was up more than 1.6%, slowly inching its way back to the $3,900 mark.

Ethereum is once again the top altcoin

After spending quite a while at the number 3 spot in the top 10 cryptocurrency market cap ranking, Ethereum once again regained its spot as the world’s largest altcoin, with a market cap second only to that of Bitcoin. Over the past 24 hours, Ethereum climbed more than 7.5%, reaching price levels not seen in more than 6 weeks. Ethereum is now up by more than 21% for the week, opening a $1 billion gap between itself and 3rd-ranked XRP.

Thailand to use blockchain for voting

Thailand’s National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC) has announced that it has developed a system which will incorporate blockchain into voting. According to NECTEC, a government organization, the technology can be used on a national scale and will be deployed after Thailand adopts a 5G network. The new technology will be used to prevent election fraud and to ensure the integrity of voting data collected.
