Cryptocurrency seesaw continues
After alternating between positive and negative sessions over the past few days, cryptos were once again in the green over the past 24 hours, as all top 10 cryptocurrencies registered gains. At the time of writing, Bitcoin was up around 3%, once again climbing above the $5,200 mark.
Today’s highlights: Qualcomm soars 30%
- Wall Street closes higher: As the earnings season continues, strong reports from several companies lifted Wall Street yesterday, as the DJ30, SPX500 and NSDQ100 all closed higher. After closing more than 3% higher yesterday, Netflix dipped 0.8% after-hours, despite strong earnings and record subscriber growth, due to a lighter-than-expected forecast for the second quarter.
- Qualcomm skyrockets 30%: At the conclusion of a long legal battle, Qualcomm yesterday announced that it has reached a settlement with Apple, with the latter agreeing to resume buying chips from the former. Following the announcement, the Qualcomm stock leaped to close 23% higher, and continued to climb after-hours, reaching total gains of around 30%.
- Carney to speak today: Bank of England Governor Mark Carney is scheduled to speak today at 13:00 GMT at the Network for Growing the Financial System Conference in Paris, potentially impacting the GBP and other key financial instruments in the UK.
